The special relationship we have with our horses is unlike anything else. Whether you ride, carriage drive, work or look after horses, you’ll know the almost indescribable, and irreplaceable, feeling of being around these beautiful animals.
Our bond with horses has been built over thousands of years. But, across Britain, our collective bond with horses is under threat. UK riding schools are the lifeblood of equestrian participation but, since 2018, we’ve lost 15% of Britain’s riding schools – that’s the equivalent of losing more than 1.5 million riding lessons every single year. That’s 1.5 million fewer opportunities for children and adults to build a love of horses.
This loss means fewer people will get to experience the horse and human bond and the joy that can bring. We’re keen to reverse this worrying trend so at the BHS we’re providing financial and practical help for riding schools, investing in our safety, access and welfare programmes, and sharing the joy of riding far and wide.
